Dr Gihan Piyatunge

Special Interests: Complex medical and neurodevelopmental conditions, and child and adolescent mental health. 

Dr Gihan Piyatunge is a specialist General Paediatrician, who provides newborn services at Mater Mother’s Hospital, and specialist Paediatric services at NAPCARE clinics.

Gihan spent his early childhood years growing up in Sri Lanka. He completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland in 2013. Gihan completed his specialist training at the Queensland Children’s hospital (Formerly known as Lady Cilento hospital) and neonatology component at Royal Brisbane women’s hospital. He has spent subsequent years working in various peripheral and rural paediatric and neonatal units across Queensland.

Gihan’s special interest lies in providing care for families and children with complex medical and neurodevelopmental conditions, as well as a passion for child and adolescent mental health. He is dedicated to providing compassionate, culturally sensitive and holistic care for young persons and families.

Unsurprisingly though Sri Lankan heritage, he is an avid cricketer, and a keen follower of the Socceroos! He has a young family, and in his spare time, Gihan loves running after his three beautiful sons, keenly trying to instil his passion for cricket and Footy in them!
