Qualifications: MD, FRACP (Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine, General Paediatrics)

Special Interests: Care of newborn babies, especially those who are born with health issues or prematurely.

Dr Stefanie Rutz specialises in the care of newborn babies, especially those who are born with health issues or prematurely.

Dr Rutz obtained her medical degree (MD) from the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg, Germany, in 2002. She completed her Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2020.

Most of her training and working life as a doctor has been in Queensland.

She has practiced at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Mater Children’s Hospital, Ipswich Hospital, Toowoomba Hospital, as well as at hospitals in New Zealand and Germany. She has worked 6 months at the Ellen Barron Family Centre, which provides support for parents experiencing challenges regarding their infants’ sleep or feeding.

As part of her work for neonatal critical care units, she undertook and coordinated retrievals for the Neonatal Retrieval Service (NeoRESQ) who transport premature or critically ill babies from regional centres to a tertiary centre for treatment.

For every child and family she sees, Dr Rutz feels privileged to be part of their journey and to do her best to ensure good outcomes are achieved. She is a parent herself, with three children, and loves family time, catching up with friends, reading and painting.
